I just got my hotcam stage 2 in and its ready to be put in.
I have a couple how to manuals I found online that I will be using for installing and shiming the valves.
I was hoping that maybe someone could add some 2 cents that I can look out for or do while I have everything apart.

I am not sure how many TRX450R guys are out there. I know that Grumpy Wookiee has one and he may have done some motor work to his bike. Other than that, i dont know. Good luck with the install!!

Aint this the type of upgrades Clay and Jake do to their bikes? I know they're all about the Yami's but they know their stuff. Too bad Clay can't type more than a few words and a sft, and Jake is a busy young college student. Chuk doesn't screw much up and impresses me with what he knows (a little about everything).
I was overwhelmed with a Gearbox swap I had to do on my Odyssey (ya the one thats for sale) but once I calmed down and looked at the step by step I just figured I'd start at step one. I put it back in, but the gearbox was put together wrong, so I had to take it back out. Taking it back out took less than a quarter of the time it took the first time. Besides torque specs I didn't look at the manual once putting it back together.
I'm sure there are some things that you won't find in a book. If nobody answers up in here try the ATV CONNECTIONS site if you haven't already. I find it hard not to get a question answered on that site.
Good luck. You can do it. May I suggest that you wait till after New Years to strat this? You guys cook up a mean breakfast, I would hate to see you guys not come out because your bikes not done.

Well I did it and it was a breeze! No "special" tools needed... just a little elbow grease and some patience.
But my valve clearances was way off. I went from a 1.65 to a 1.40 before I did the swap... Looks like a few more times out and I will need to get the valves reseated. While I had it apart I went and did a complete clean of the carb (which took about 1/2 hour) and it was pretty sandy. Mollyed the cam, wiped everything off and bolted it back up. 7 or 8 pumps of the throttle and it started right up the first time. Not to bad for my first time.
I took it around the block and holy crap! If you own a 450 replace it with a hotcam stage 2. It literally "unleashes the power within".
The site where I got all the info is the tech forum of trx450r.com
