So quiet...
I haven't been on in a long while. Sad that this board has gotten so quiet. Used to hop.

Re: So quiet...
The "Nothing" came through here a few months ago. This little piece of the ASA is all that's left.

But on a happier note, I'm looking forward to riding in the former "closure" areas once the temperatures cool down in the ISDRA.
I'll bet it's 'gonna be really soft out there!

Hi Ron! I think most of the people who were most vocal here have drifted away, for whatever reason is unknown to me. Mostly all I do these days is delete spam...

Re: So quiet...
I beg to differ. ASA is still a major player at the ISDRA. We are still tracking threats to our sport from the anti-OHV groups and taking legal action where prudent. We still send newsletters and occasional email updates when we have something to report.Booga-dune-poon wrote:The "Nothing" came through here a few months ago. We will have a presence at the upcoming Sand Show along with a current newsletter and an updated FAQ sheet. We need volunteers for the show.
We will have are annual raffle and the unveiling of next year's raffle vehicle.
We still need volunteers to carry out the day-to-day activities. We still need dedicated board members that are willing to take on responsible roles.
The boards here are indeed quiet. It is not like 2000-2004 when the sting of the closures was still fresh in our minds. These boards were set up with the purpose of informing the dune community, to solicit volunteers, fundraising, and in general, to get organized in order to fight the fight - all pretty boring stuff compared to the other sand sites that are based on the fun aspect of the sport. I can understand how the doom and gloom message got old and readers migrated to more fun sites.
As new duners came onto the scene, they had no idea of the land that we lost or interest in reading the history of it - pretty boring stuff. And so their interest in the fight was less than us old-timers who more deeply felt the loss. Also, social media sites are the new craze and the ASA has a presence there as well.
My biggest fear with the re-opening of 40,000 acres is that duners will assume the battle is over. We are a long way from it. The anti-access groups are using everything they can think of to "get their land back"; from protection of the Flat Tail Horned Lizard to air pollution (dust and tailpipe emissions).
There will be a need for the ASA well into the future.

Re: So quiet...
The "nothing" I spoke of is the silence or lack of active posts on this forum. The lack of passion and community are what is striking when reading posts ten years ago and as compared to now. My intent was not to question the body of good work from the ASA.
Indeed the ASA continues to fight the good fight. Yes, the lack of instant gratification taxes the short attention span of many now days. The old timers suffer the ravages of attrition and their ranks continue to shrink. I agree that the new timers are unaware of the lost areas and do not appreciate the sting from the closures.
Thank you ASA for the diligence and commitment to stay the course and protect the OHV family from those that would harm our lifestyle.
