Hey Woodglue...my wife was scared badly for me to make up a BS gun story.
As for myself...really couldn't make up my mind wither to keep weapon in holster or pull it out to intervene? Been there, done it in the past. But the gun in the face...didn't see it, but heard nuff to realized someone was that close to speaking to God? Needless to say, Boyz made tracks during the nite knowing somebody was going to drop a 911? Which didn't happened?
Would it be a close estimate, that, one in ten who attend major off road events carry some type of firearm for self defense. I choose "Defense" so as to separate those who take their weapons to "Own" their surroundings?

Rad, some people just shouldn't drink, know what I mean? Just like some people shouldn't own guns. They don't know how to behave and where to draw the line.
You seem to have a hard enough time posting coherently here as it is, so I suggest you give up on either posting here or drinking.

Re: Firearms in camp
How about this?
Get caught in State or Federal Parks/Dunes possessing a firearm on ones body, while legally intoxicate will warrant an automatic 365 days in jail/prison regardless of clean record!
Further, I would demand total lost of "The Right to Bear Arms" to individual(s) for violating the trust!
I've been around firearms for 45 of my adult years protecting that trust. I've seen just about everything that can go wrong on this side of the law concerning firearms. My experience on and off the competition range has proven deadly assurances can happen when intoxicate individuals and firearms get together! Even among Pros? Ask any of your LEO friends...if they're honest, they'll fill you in on some the crazy things regarding drinking and firearms?
As far as I am concern...anyone who wishes to practice "The Right to Bear Arms" HAVE To go through 90 days of professional training with 30 days of classroom instruction/films included in time period. Not Pass or Fail requirement! Just a must...to own a legal firearm.
After which, each and every USA Citizen can be armed if they choose to!
Regardless of Color, Creed, Pub or Demo!
Take care,

That's an opinion that I have never heard.

Oh yeah I gotta get a pistol before I leave AZ so I don't have to got through all of the crazy Kalifornia stuff. Looking for a 9MM or a 45 semi auto 15 round mags what do you guys recommend.
Oh yeah by no means do I intend to start another war with this thread.
I have to agree there are a lot of people who own guns that should not....the same goes for cars, sand rails, ATVs?UTVs, so on and so forth. Alcohol doesn't mix well with anything really....well except for coke, OJ,

Find out what you can actually have in Kali.
OR buy in AZ and take to Kali when you go.
I know of a reasonable Hi cap Para 14-45 with extra mags.....You really cant go wrong with any good 1911

Re: Firearms in camp
I'm glad this is back on track.
90 days of training to own a firearm is completely and utterly absurd!!!
I do agree some training should be required. Basic gun handling and safety yes...turning every gun owner into a SWAT member, no way.
People have to take responsibility and do the right thing...it should not be our governments job to regulate everything we do.
BTW Valen, I might be willing to part with a 9mm Smith and Wesson I have. While a 1911 is an awesome gun, they are more complex and complicated than say a Glock.

We use the Baretta 9mm of course. Its kind of heavy and but I shoot it pretty good and it is pretty simple. I will be shooting it in two weeks for our annual qualification.

Re: Firearms in camp
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water
Much more reading to do
The Para 14-45 mentioned is not on the roster.
http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/safeguns.asp
http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/
Update
SEE now I read this on Calguns.net
For guns you purchased when you lived out of state, the Roster does not apply.
that should make the Para 14-45 mentioned Exempt if you bought in AZ then moved to CA......

Re: Firearms in camp
Gentlemen, this is the original topic in which we'll discussing.Grumpy Wookiee wrote:In the Glamis ISDRA forum, we were having a conversation about the problems that can occur with camp rules. So as no to detour from the original intent of the post, I have decided to move my comments and concerns about the use of firearms, a topic that sprang up from the original post (partially because of me) to the safety and survival forum instead. The below quote was from the previous thread. Im sure that the administrators will iron everything out with links to each and so on and so forth as needed to make this thread presentable.
This is a good point, that stopping the threat MAY not involve killing another, but if you are going to carry a firearm, you need to prepare yourself for the damage it may cause. Even shooting someone in the leg could cause death, esspecially in Glamis, where medical treatment may be a ways out. I have seen many people bleed out from wounds that normally would not have killed a person that had access to immediate medical attention. I have seen others that have been shot in places that should have killed them instantly, but they continued to fight. This is another problem with shooting to cause enough damage to "stop the threat". Just because it will stop one person, does not mean it will stop the next. It may just escalate the situation to an undesirable level.MFortie wrote:While I generally agree with what you posted (and GW), the CORRECT decision is to shoot to STOP the threat, not to kill.
In the end, if you are not prepared to take someones life, then you need to leave the fire arm at home. Warning shots should not be thought of as an option. That round can travel great distances, and if you shoot at anything other than your target, you have the threat of hitting an innocent bystander. Even shooting at the ground should be considered dangerous, as there are many rocks and other objects that can deflect the round into an unwanted direction. That is why warning shots or "spoilers" are not authorized for use by law enforcement or military personnel.
If there is a situation that is present that you feel you need to pull out your weapon, you need to do so with the intent to kill. It is called deadly force for a reason, because no matter where the bullet lands, it has the force behind it to cause death.
I didn't take it anywhere but what using a firearm will inflict. Not here to offer or trade firearms, nor instruct those whom may have some knowledge of it's uses.
90 days of range and classroom instruction....bit much I admit? But, the gist of my opinion still stands concerning training and requiring each and every person learn the ramifications of releasing deadly fire protecting oneself, family and home.
One does not open fire to wound, period! Those who believe wounding is enough, take your weapon your local police station and have it destroyed. Add more security to your cell fones with quick "Call 911" features and hope they get there in time? Those who choose to take responsibility using deadly force, sign up for a ton of training!
I really hate to say it....the dead person(s) lawyer will dig out every bit of info how you used your judgment taking a poor innocent life! Yes, innocent until proven guilty! Even LEO's are hammered everyday, the consequence of drawing down. They are professionals using a ton of training and instruction!
What does the average Joe have to draw from....shoot 6 rounds* into a pie plate at 10 or so yards, take a 25 question quiz? Not much for your lawyer to use in your defense, yes?
RAD4Ever around your campfire
*I've shot tens of thousands of rounds, and in my case....will have a more difficult time explaining why I didn't evade an deadly outcome with a Master Class noodle? GB if asked, will explain that little tidbit to those of you not in the know?

Hey, Darren, look into the Springfield XD series! Awesome guns, dont jam (often), easy to handle, easy to use. I have an XD .40 that I love.
Since this thread got brought back up, I must say that I am glad to see the responses that it has recieved over the last
BTW, 90 days of training, like 3 months? This is about as long as the CQB (Close Quarters Battle) course I took while on active duty. Not many people get that kind of training. We shot more rounds than you could imagine, 10 hours a day going through gun drills. Just doesnt make sense unless you are preparing to make entry on a large city. I bet SWAT would be hard pressed to get that much range time.
I can just imagine asking my boss, "Hey, I need 3 months off to take a gun saftey course so I can defend my home per the 2nd Amendment". That will go as smooth as trying to read RAD's posts...
But really, please don't buy a gun if you are not going to take the APPROPRIATE training...

It's beyond absurd. It's asinine. Consider the source.Glamisbound wrote:90 days of training to own a firearm is completely and utterly absurd!!!
When I was about 12 I had my firearms training in order to get a hunting license, and I aced it because I had already been taught how to handle firearms by my dad half a dozen years before. I don't ever remember not being able to handle guns and neither will my boys.I do agree some training should be required. Basic gun handling and safety yes...
They will both have professional training and like their dad, it will only be AFTER they've been through the paces with me. It will be more of a refresher course for them. As it should be.
Giving a kid a gun when he's 16 with no prior instruction/exposure is like giving them a car or an ATV at that age with no prior instruction/exposure.
It's stupid.

Re: Firearms in camp
All in all...your suggestion is the meat of my input. Folks who arm themselves with a deadly weapon are in the end in having to take a life, will have to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt deadly force was necessary.Grumpy Wookiee wrote:Hey, Darren, look into the Springfield XD series!
