Take your nails with you!

Yes, I burn old wood from building sites, replaced fences and broken upped pallets along with logs from neighbors who remove their trees.
I also remove the nails, screws and staples with a huge magnet that I drag around the campsite (Wash Sites) before and after the fires.
How many times I've filled the bucket with metal objects would surprise most of you.
What I love is showing the surrounding campers my catch and witnessing the looks on their faces!
Please, make a effort to remove all metals (Barrel rings, box springs, couch strings, TV frames, steel tire belts, stoves included) in and around your campsite, it may save a tire or two! Not to mention littles ones getting their feet punctured?
NONE-METAL item: Most wouldn't believe the amount of yellow caution tape my wife and I collect after a major weekend....garbage bags galore!!
Not ragging....since we do it for exercise and a stretch of the legs.

Good to go Radical $\:D/$ I've been meaning to buy one of the nail magnets at home depot to collect the nails, screws, glass, aluminum cans, etc. when I go out. Last April I went out when there was some major wind. Accumulation of years of buried stuff was uncovered. At one camp fire site by Pad 4 I think we found a whole house there. We did, however, find a whole lot of coins in that particular area

It amazed me of how many nails, screws, etc. that we were riding over

Rooster, bought a 10 (?) pounder at Harbor Freight in Montclair, Ca. and it's one powerful mag! Cheap too!
Yeah....like too walk the sites for fun.
RAD is my "First/Middle/Last" name in reverse.
But, I do "Radical" when necessary?

1--Get the kind of Mag that has a long handle [less bending if you are nail hunting sometimes you find a nail mine and must go at it for some time]

2--Get one that has a release handle [twist the release and nails fall off into bucket]

3--Buy two and bring some camp kids along for the 'treasure hunt'

4--Show everyone that is camped near you your treasure!

I like to do this in afternoon after a long hard mid day ride.

Most of us don't.

Those that do and leave them behind I agree are 'RichardHeads' also.

I like to walk next to an adjoining camp at Cement Flats and clean a 'Pit' that has obvious nails/debris left behind. I know I will camp again at CF, so in essence, I am just protecting my future tire tracks and building good nail karma.

Wood with screws/Nails anywhere are bad, however, especially bad at CF because there is no where for debris to sink into. The nails just set on the surface of the slurry.... Ready for the next rail or trailer to run over them.

Don't know why I didn't post this some time back?
Just paid out $250 for a new tire that had a nasty nail between the tracks

Had it double patch, now designated as my spare tire with the proper OD! [-o<

I had to purchase @ Costco El Centro a few seasons back says don't bring firewood with any metal

After borrowing enough spares to get to Costco of El Centro I had to scrap my Michelins with only 20k on them to get a new set

Don't burn or leave anything with metal or glass @ the Dunes

The Magnet sounds like a good idea to clean up after previous campers messes though =D>

One could simply pull the nails Before you head to the dunes.
