8mm Movie - Glamis Dunes 1970

Post by Booga-dune-poon »

Long story short: I got in touch with my half sister and step sister after 30 years. Their Mom got the 8mm movies after the divorce. Surprise, surpise when they told me they had these old movies with Dad's dune buggy in them. Wow! I couldn't wait to see them.

I had vivid memories of going to Glamis starting in 1968 when I was 13 years old. But would they line up with photographic documentation? Much to my relief, the movies are exactly how I remembered it, except for the part that movies were being shot. I'd never seen them until now. Now you can too.

P.S.
Back in the day, we (at least everyone in the movies) mis-pronounced it "GLYMAS"

Time marker 0:13 - climbing Competion Hill
Time marker 3:09 - Dad driving toward the camera

Over the years he painted the buggy black, gold, orange and green.

That is very cool, really brings back memories too. My first trip was in 1971, with a Yamaha 90 MX

I had an old tunnel (VW pan) buggy like that and took it out there in '73/'74. With the old 40 hp engines you really couldn't do too much meaning climbing the old OLDs hill that was straight up. And Comp Hill behind Osborne was a real steep dune back in those days. Now you wouldn't know it was there. At 58 still riding my trike

Sounds like a VW Pan Buggy I had. 1200cc's of FUN.
6 volt system, a beer keg gas can, and a teepee exhaust with a megaphone stinger.

Got to love the old times. I still prefer the vw suspension rails. Her in Oregon the long travels can't get to were I camp.
Keep the rubber side down.
