Riding Off of S22

Post by DA4RNR »

Hey,

Had a great Thanksgiving weekend camping off of S22 in OW. I had a chance to ride and 4 wheel on the other side of S22 in what I assume was BLM land. Most of this area is badlands. Anyone have more information and/or the availability of maps for this area? :D

There are two areas: 1)There is some private land across from the Peg Leg Smith monument that goes into the Borrego Bad lands and eventually ends up in the park (Fonts Point) whether you go south, east or north. Not a lot of riding area and can cover all of it in one day. Plus on the south end you dump into San Felipe Wash. The wash is technically a closed part of the Park but stay on it for a mile or two and you end up in Ocotillo Wells OHV park. 2)Past the Park (Anza Borrego) along S22 starts private land again into Salton sea. The area is called Arroyo Salada and is almost exclusively bad lands. You probaby camped just off the road near a pole line road that goes between S22 and the 78. Most of that land is private mixed in with BLM and borders the Ocotillo Wells OHV park. You may find yourself going in and out of the Park by heading west.

This is all technically legal on BLM and private (assuming it is not fenced or signed). You can also take Arroyo Salada all the way to Salton Sea which makes for an interesting and stinky ride.

Overall good riding if you like dust and rocks. Excellent 2 wheel stuff.

Thanks for the input. Since the Turkey Day trip, I purchased some books and we made a 4-wheel trip to Una, Five, and 17 palms in Anza Borrego State Park. We took the wash down to 86 over to Tule and back to camp off of County Line Rd. 6 hour ride and a great day. On Saturday, we went out Split Mountain Rd to Fish Creek / Sandstone Canyon. This area is awesome. Only problem is it is for street legal vehicles.
