Too bad to, some of the best riding I've done was up Coyote canyon. Great for warm weather riding in the day. Going back and forth thru the water, jumping off the bank into the water, coming up the other bank for another jump. Then hitting the berms on top near Sheep canyon campground was a lot of fun. Unfortunately all of Anza Borrego is closed except for the Ocotillo Wells OHV park. Now you cannot take street legal 4x4's up there either. Coyote canyon is only good for car camping, hiking and horse back riding. The enviromentalist and the horse people teamed up to get us out of there.crash wrote: Upper Willows is closed as has been the case for many years now. You can not make a through trip up the mountains.

Let's be clear. Collins Valley is still open. At least it was when I went last summer. When you say car camping, there aren't too many cars that will reach Coyote Canyon. You must go up "The Rock Pile" still. I always get looks of shock when Jeepers see me in that valley in my stock Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I know that spot. The last time I was in that area they had a gate going across the bottom of the Rock Pile. Does that mean you can still get to Sheep canyon campground? If so I will be going back. I used to take that in my stock KIA sportage and got the same strange looks.crash wrote:Let's be clear. Collins Valley is still open. At least it was when I went last summer. About three or four year ago one had to stop at the ranger station and get the combo to the gate after signing the release form for liability, but for the last couple years the gate has just been open. The only place you still can not go is the permanently closed area to the north.(Upper Willows) Access to all the valleys and camps in Collins valley are still open as far as I know. I hope so as I just made my April reservations.
