The Little Sahara Sand Dunes in Oklahoma have been a favorite for enthusiasts of the Midwest for years. Now in 2008 the laws have changed slightly to reduce the risk of fatal accidents on the sand. Oklahoma laws have passed which include no passengers on ATV unless the Vehicle was designed in the factory to include a second rider. Also in effect is the helmet law which require riders under the age of 18 to wear a helmet on all personal riding vehicles (ATV’s & UTV’s) with the exception of enclosed buggies and jeeps. Big events tend to be monitored by local law enforcement a little more closely so reckless riding and driving in the camp areas is frowned upon these days. The ATV Trail that links the town of Waynoka and the Little Sahara Sand Dunes State Park also enforces these new laws.
The Dunes are still a ball to ride and although fuel costs are high, recreationists are still coming in droves to ride the dunes. You can still ride your ATV or buggy into town for a cold beverage, dining or many other amenities. To shave expenses, many riding groups are partnering on rental houses with AC and spacious accommodations to save money during thier stay Vs.a cramped hotel room or dusty tent. I recommend the Cafe' Bahnhof a German restaurant for dinner and beverages. Remember some of the trails are 24 hour and those that go directly into to town are daylight hours only. Re: New Rules Same Dunes
Thanks for the heads up Dundee. All of those safety items make sound sense and are pretty much standard practice anywhere, anymore. I think its really cool that Waynoka had the foresight to open, and keep open, the trail between town and the dunes. I haven't been to Little Sahara, but a co-worker from Kansas says its a favorite of his.

Dude, what's with these addiction treatment people posting? Is there some way to block their nonsensical, obscure posts?

We pull them as we see fit. The one in this post, while poorly constructed, is at least somewhat relevant (other than the link).crash wrote:Dude, what's with these addiction treatment people posting? Is there some way to block their nonsensical, obscure posts?
I'll relinquish my right to ride when you relinquish your right to breathe

Re: New Rules Same Dunes
The reason for posting the new law information was due to several recreationists arriving and still attempting to ride double. In addition we are just now starting to see ATV enthusiasts start to use helmets more frequently. Unfortunately, this link is one of only two up-to-date informative links to the Little Sahara Sand Dunes in existence. Yes we own the link but donate our site to the town and local dune activities at no charge. The City has chosen to link to us because we offer current information pertaining to the dunes. We also donate our time to produce and mange the trail maps and map links. The rental business allows us the funds to offer these donations. We are sorry if we have caused any inconvenience. When you are only a town of 998 residents you tend to pool your resources.

No No, not at all. Your info is great Dundee. My comment was directed at some of the people replying on this site that seem to all be related to some addiction rehab site and post mostly irrelavent posts on this BBS. You are doing exactly right. Sorry for the confusion.
